How not to make a podcast…

Today I decided that I wanted to try and make my first podcast. What thought did I put into it? Not much, sadly. The idea was to talk about some current stories (or at least some things printed off the BBC news Webpage) in Starbucks coffee in Marlow. The reality was however far from this.

I didn’t plan to have an extra girly teenager to distract my “co-hostâ€? and talk about irrelevant things while we were trying to have a conversation. I also didn’t count on my source stories to be well out of date, and even if they weren’t, we didn’t have much to say about them. There was also very little focus of the conversation, so anyone tuning into my podcast wouldn’t find anything that particularly interested them!

Ok, lets try Take 2. We went back home, and tried again, this time hashing out some topics. This didn’t help at all, and we ended up talking about irrelevant stuff all over again, except this time we sounded more under pressure because we were very aware that we were being recorded! I then tried playing some music and asking the others to comment on it. One of them was totally apathetic about it. That didn’t work either.

So, before I try again, I’m going to carefully pick my panel, and decide a topic to discuss in a depth that will engage listeners. It needs a focus.

I was also informed that I missed The Biographers’ club vs the New Scientist in University Challenge. One of the answers was “blogâ€?. I am not pleased.
